Our backstory 

Over the last couple of years, we’ve been all ears listening to the local community in Holtspur and the wider Beaconsfield area. We heard through various surveys and meetings, that St Thomas’ Church should focus its efforts on helping local families and the elderly.  

We also know that social isolation and loneliness continue to be identified as a growing problem as we emerge from the pandemic. A recent survey by Better Connected Beaconsfield showed this is the case and that there is a local desire to tackle this. 

Among the many local efforts to address these problems, St. Thomas’ Church opened its doors to host a much-needed food larder throughout the Spring and Summer of 2020. But an ongoing desire to continue to be a resource for the people of Beaconsfield has culminated in plans for the buildings of St Thomas’ to be accessible seven days a week by opening a café at the back of the church to become the heart and hub of the community. 

In 2021, thanks to some very generous donations from the church congregation, local businesses, major grant funders and local community funders, work began on building a new community café. 

Who we are 

The Dove Café is a vibrant café and community safe space serving Beaconsfield. It is a place where everyone is welcome. A place to connect our community – to each other, to good food, to activities, to access support and to fellowship at St Thomas’ Church.  

We are part of St Thomas’ Church, but the café is run by staff, volunteers and advisors from the wider community. We are a non-profit making venture and any surplus from the café is reinvested into activity for the community.

What we offer 

We provide barista-made coffee,  a range of teas, the best hot chocolates and plenty of other drinks, served with kindness from local volunteers who seek to make everyone feel welcomed and included, in an accessible building with ample space, high chairs, parking and Wi-Fi.  

We provide yummy food made on site using locally and ethically sourced products where possible. 

Our vision is to support the church in offering a range of new activities and support services for the community, often by working in partnership with other local bodies, including Better Connected Beaconsfield, the Beaconsfield Advisory Centre and others.
